ACC Quality Summit examines role of registries, quality campaigns and accreditation in quality and performance improvement efforts

The American College of Cardiology’s first annual ACC Quality Summit merges the NCDR Annual Conference and ACC Accreditation Congress for the first time to optimize cardiovascular patient care. The conference brings together cardiovascular thought leaders, administrators, clinicians, clinical quality leaders and data quality experts. ACC Quality Summit begins on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, in New Orleans.

“The ACC Quality Summit bridges quality improvement projects to improving cardiovascular care and patient outcomes. We’re excited to bring together NCDR and Accreditation and achieve quality care by connecting the entire health care team to share their success stories,” said Ralph Brindis, MD, MPH, MACC, co-director of ACC Quality Summit. “Whether you’re a CV admin seeking innovative solutions to improve your service line, a physician interested in promoting CV quality or a hospital administrator who wants to learn how NCDR/Accreditation can support your strategic goals, ACC Quality Summit has education and networking opportunities for all audiences, roles and experience levels.”

At ACC Quality Summit, cardiovascular professionals who participate in the NCDR, ACC Quality Campaigns or have achieved ACC Accreditation will learn more about effectively translating data and quality programs into achieving care. Cardiovascular leaders and experts will help attendees focus on providing optimal patient care, achieving clinical outcomes excellence and capturing high-quality data to drive important clinical and service line decisions.

Zubin Damania, MD, this year’s Ralph G. Brindis Keynote speaker, will discuss the importance of a team approach to quality and safety. Also known as “ZDoggMD,” Damania is an internist and comedian known for educating patients and providers through satirizing the health care system.

Oral Presentations and Posters

Attendees submitted abstracts telling the story of changes they have implemented in their organization, including quality improvement projects, education approaches, innovative processes and research. The following abstracts are a selection of the posters being presented. To receive embargoed copies of these abstracts, see a full list of posters being presented or to speak to study authors, contact Katie Glenn at [email protected]. All posters and oral presentations are embargoed until Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 10 a.m. CT.

  • Improving Medication Communication (press release available)

  • Preparing for the Storm of Obstacles

  • Cardiovascular Care from the Frontier

  • The Village Concept in Cardiac Rehab

  • Utilization of a Mobile Integrated Health Model

This year three abstracts were selected for oral presentation during a general session at ACC Quality Summit:

  • Bleeding Avoidance Strategies in Cardiac Catheterization Procedures – A Single Center Experience

  • Early Follow Up Post AMI Discharge and the Impact on Readmission Rate; Experience from the ACC Patient Navigator Program

  • Improving the Utilization of i-STAT Troponin in Chest Pain Patients Quality Improvement Initiative
