Cleveland Clinic's Medical Innovation Summit will bring together more than 100 speakers and leaders from more than 500 organizations and 20 countries to downtown Cleveland on Oct. 22 to 24, 2018, focusing on the theme of Disruption: Reimaging Healthcare.

Now in its 16th year, the annual Medical Innovation Summit is organized by Cleveland Clinic Innovations, the development and commercialization arm of Cleveland Clinic. This year's summit will look beyond the walls of the hospital and explore innovative solutions for the transformation of healthcare.

"Healthcare is in the midst of a dramatic change from hospital-based care focused on illness and disability to community-based services that focus on the prevention of illness and disability before they occur," said Will Morris, M.D., senior medical director of Cleveland Clinic Innovations. "As a result, markets are emerging that focus on the ever-growing data gleaned from sophisticated sensors and biomarkers of healthy populations to keep patients out of the hospital."

The agenda includes 30 sessions and thought-provoking panels, as well as 1-on-1 discussions with top healthcare, industry and biotech leaders. Topics include: shifting digital health; technology in the primary care setting; a patient-centered drug market; med-tech's future in a value-based world; women in health-tech; international insights, digital in healthcare investment forum and social networks and shared appointments.

Additionally, keynote speakers include Elisabeth Rosenthal, M.D., author of American Sickness; John Boehner, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives; and Judy Faulkner, CEO of Epic.

Other featured speakers include:

  • Tim Scannell, President & COO, Stryker
  • Simon Kos, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Microsoft
  • Eric Hargan, Deputy Secretary, Health and Human Services
  • Bonnie Clipper, VP of Innovation, American Nurses Association
  • Adam Boehler, Deputy Administrator for Innovation & Quality, Center for Medicare &Medicaid Innovation
  • Dawn Owens, President, Triple Tree
  • Greg Moore, M.D., Ph.D., VP Healthcare, Google Cloud, Google
  • Dennis Weaver, M.D., Chief Clinical Officer, Oscar Health
  • Carla Smith, Executive VP, HIMSS
  • Nigel Clarke, Ph.D., VP, Technology and Solutions Development, Quest Diagnostics

The Medical Innovation Summit has grown in its impact and now includes several partner events in Cleveland including Advanced Payment Summit (Oct. 22-24).

Additionally, this year's summit will again share proximity with the 4th Annual Cleveland Medical Hackathon, a coding and problem-solving competition that culminates at the Global Center for Health Innovation on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 and 21. Hackathon winners will be invited to the summit and many summit participants are expected to attend the Hackathon.

The 2018 Medical Innovation Summit will be held at the Huntington Convention Center in downtown Cleveland. Registration is now open.
