Glenview, Illinois – Published monthly, the journal CHEST® features peer-reviewed, cutting-edge original research in chest medicine: Pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine and related disciplines. Journal topics include asthma, chest infections, COPD, critical care, diffuse lung disease, education and clinical practice, pulmonary vascular disease, sleep, thoracic oncology and the humanities.

The November issue of the journal CHEST contains 51 articles, including clinically relevant research, reviews, case series, commentary and more. Each month, the journal also offers complementary web and multimedia activities, including visual abstracts, to expand the reach of its most interesting, timely and relevant research.

“Included in the November issue of the journal CHEST is the latest guideline on Perioperative Management of Antithrombotic Therapy,” says Editor in Chief, Peter Mazzone, MD, MPH, FCCP. “An update to the 2012 edition, the new guideline addresses 43 Patients-Interventions-Comparators-Outcomes questions related to the perioperative management of patients who are receiving long-term oral anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy and require an elective surgery or procedure.”

Also included in the current issue of the journal CHEST:

  • Chest Infections
Original research, “Neutralizing COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma in Adults Hospitalized With COVID-19,” results did not support the use of convalescent plasma as a treatment for adults hospitalized with COVID-19. A visual abstract for the research can be viewed here, and an animation of the research can be viewed here.

  • COPD
“Clinical Characteristics, Treatment Persistence, and Outcomes Among Patients With COPD Treated With Single- or Multiple-Inhaler Triple Therapy” finds that single-inhaler triple therapy was associated with significant reductions in health care resource use, with consequent cost savings. A visual abstract for the research can be viewed here.

  • Education and Clinical Practice
Associated with Long COVID, “Neurovascular Dysregulation and Acute Exercise Intolerance in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome” finds that pyridostigmine improves aerobic capacity in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome.

  • Sleep
Looking at short-term changes, “Air Pollution and the Effectiveness of Positive Airway Pressure Therapy in Individuals With Sleep Apnea” demonstrated that air pollution, even at the relatively low levels, showed a measurable association with a change in objective positive airway pressure treatment effectiveness. A visual abstract for the research can be viewed here.
