Senem SEZER, a PhD student of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Marmara University, has won the first place in the Altın Kalem Master’s Thesis Award by achieving the highest evaluation score with the articles of her Master’s thesis entitled “Artificial Intelligence Application in Integrated Gasification Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cycle”, which was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uğur ÖZVEREN.
Senem SEZER is a successful chemical engineer who has proven her success in her field through her studies. She has been working in the modeling lab under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uğur ÖZVEREN since 2018 and continues to be one of the valuable student researchers in the modeling lab. While working in the modeling lab, Senem successfully completed her master’s degree at Marmara College in the Department of Chemical Engineering in 2021.
Senem’s studies focus on thermal analysis, energy and exergy, machine learning and deep learning (artificial neural network), biomass and coal gasification, modeling, fuel cells, nanoparticles, catalysts, and hydrocarbon characterization. Together with her PhD supervisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uğur ÖZVEREN, she has published a total of 13 articles, including 6 in SCI index, in high quality and well-known journals. In addition, she gave very successful oral presentations in various international and national conferences and even won the second prize for oral presentation entitled “Investigation of H2 Concentration in Synthesis Gas in Bubbling Fluidized Bed Gasifier Using Artificial Neural Networks” at the 10th Renewable Energy Resources Symposium in 2019, and she reinforced her success by receiving the “First Place Award” for oral presentation entitled “Investigation of Oak Wood Biochar Gasification in Downdraft Gasifier Using Aspen Plus Simulation” at the 3rd Bioenergy Studies Symposium in 2021. In addition, Senem was one of the three Turkish students supported by Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in 2019. In this framework, she received a scholarship from the South Korean government and had the opportunity to complete a 6-month internship at the Clean Energy Research Center at KIST. Currently, Senem is working at TUBITAK MAM KTE (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey Marmara Research Center Chemical Technology Institute), one of the most prestigious and important scientific research institutions in Turkey.
Recently, an enthusiastic celebration was held at the Modeling Laboratory for the Altın Kalem Prize, which Senem won. During the celebration, Senem expressed that she was very excited and happy about the award and that she would like to achieve many more successes with the Modeling Laboratory group in the future.
The Altın Kalem Master’s Thesis Award will be presented to Senem in a grand ceremony in the coming days. We congratulate Senem SEZER and her supervisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uğur OeZVEREN for the achieved success and wish them continued success.
